1989-1990 sERIES 1 Consulier GTP cv
Only 8 variants of the CV exist and 2 roadsters. The CV convertibles didn't share the same removable tops. Some had a 2 piece removable top (split down the middle.) and some had a 1 piece removable hardtop. There is also 1 out of the 8 with a fuzed top. The owner had it permanently molded back on the body. There were no soft top CV's either (like a porsche 911 convertible) and the 2 roadsters that were never finished at the factory would have been set up with a tonneau cover split down the middle like a 356 porsche speedster. All of the CV's made were series 1 cars and only came with the 2.2 Turbo II powerplant & A555 Getrag 5 speed manual transaxle.
The CV had a unique looking mid section and a totally different rear hatch, some were louvered down the entire length of the rear hatch in 3 rows. They also had a unique pleather cover that snapped over the inside trunk area in the rear of the engine compartment. Stored inside were a pair of soft cases for the top itself and the rear window, that came out to give the car a great sense of openness and neutralized any buffeting (Helmholtz Resonance) from the vehicle at cruising speeds.
The chassis had NO need for any extra bracing or support to stiffen the chassis. (like the corvette, that needed an extra 300 pounds of support bracing) The rest of the car was the same as a standard LX, same motor, same brakes, same everything. Truly a fun car to drive down those twisty country roads!

It's a detailed report from their participation the 1990 "One Lap of America" competition with a Consulier GTP LX that was sponsored by Consulier in which driver Billy Edwards & navigator Mike Puffenberger finished 3rd place over all and made history with the best finish ever for a 2 man team in the "One Lap of America."
Hemelgarn Racing is an American auto racing team owned by Ron Hemelgarn. The team debuted in 1985, and competed in the CART & Indy Racing League ranks until the team originally shut down in 2010. The team returned to competition in 2015, and currently competes full-time in the USAC Silver Crown Series with driver Justin Grant.
